Trade him for some picks/prospects. Columbus basically gave up on this season when they let Jack Johnson walk anyway. |

The Blue Jackets aren't very far from being a contender. A few breaks in the playoffs and they could be the ones going to the Finals instead of Washington or Pittsburgh. They have the goaltending and a great D. It would send a really bad message to the fans if they didn't try to get better now and make a run at the Cup when they have a chance to do that. Trade for established players. |

Why does nobody mention a Panarin for gardener trade along with a roster fourth line forward. |

With everything he's already said about not wanting to re-sign with the CBJ, if he really said he wants to start the season with the CBJ, but not talk contract after Sept 13, then he doesn't care about the team's situation. I would prefer to keep Panarin, and I would hope that Jarmo is willing, or already has, offered $10 - 10.5MM/AAV for long term.
I understand he has to watch out for himself, and secure his future. But the longer the CBJ hold on to him, his value goes down, as the CBJ loses any leverage they have.
As I've said before on this blog - he's indicated there's no desire to remain with the CBJ. And I don't see the CBJ making a deep run into the playoffs - with Panarin in the lineup - unless all kinds of stuff falls into the right place; Foligno getting back to his point production of 2-3 yrs ago; Jenner contributes for the entire year, not just the last 6 weeks; Bjorkstrand taking a big step forward; Milano contributing (if he's not traded); PLD not suffering a sophomore slump; Bob doesn't get injured.
I would definitely look to trade him NOW. That enables you to assimilate the new players from the start of the season. It also eliminates the "Tavaras soap opera" that happened all last season - with the Islanders holding an empty bag.
I would try to do a sign& trade with Florida - assuming he really wants to go there. Ask for Barkov or Huberdeau, and one of their top prospects from 2018 draft. Florida has the depth to do a trade like this.
Trading a one-for-one with Dallas for Seguin would be nice, but only if Seguin would sign long term. |

If Gardener gets dealt its for another man. Tavares will have Marner and Marleau as his wingers this season. |

Are you really serious? I do not want to trade Panarin, but if I did I'm not giving more away to an Eastern Conference team just so I can get rid of a possible problem. Florida has to give up more than him to get Breadman.

Barkov is worth more. Stop being a homer. All round game is better and he is a C. |

Panarin is a game-changer ! He can carry a team on his own - pretty much did that last year with the CBJ.
Other than maybe the Pens, and Oilers, whatever team he goes to he's the big fish - not a complimentary piece.
All that being said, Barkov is an excellent return, that I would love to have. However, he's not quite on Panarin's level. I would want something else to sweeten the pot. Possibly a 1st ? If not a pick, then a top prospect. |

You're either clueless a troll or a huge homer. Panarin is a 26 year old pt per game winger with one year left on his contract and barkov is a 23 year old pt per game 2 way center locked up for 4 more years on one of the best contracts in the league. As things stand it'd be panarin++ for barkov. Even signed long term to a great contract you would have to add. Don't get me wrong panarin is great and would love to have him on the leafs but as far as trade value goes he's not even close to barkov. |

I mean , if that's a rumour and Talon wants to deal Barkov, fine. More realistically ,maybe Huberdeau , Owen Tippett (random FLA draft pick )for Panarin

C'mon - this is from a Toronto fan. Toronto fans on this blog n-e-v-e-r overvalue their players, or expect lopside trades in their favor.
I'm not clueless, or a troll. I may be a slight, homer. Yes, Barkov's contract numbers, age, are great compared to what Panarin will command. But if I were Jarmo, I'd start with that proposition. Maybe second pieces (picks or prospects) from each side need to be added, with it being more favorable to Florida.
To clarify. This is not a rumor, just speculation based on Panarin already owning a condo in Miami, so he already likes the area, and might be open to a long term deal with the Panthers.
Yes - Huberdeau is more likely than Barkov - and I'd go with that, if another piece were included.
Don't know how firm the Sept 13 date is, but it's coming up quick. |

Once again panarin is awesome. Not many wingers in the league I would take over him. Laine or kucherov maybe ovi and Kane but they're getting older but I still disagree on your valuation. Unsigned there's probably nothing you could add outside of Jones or werenski that Florida would be interested in which is obviously an overpayment. Signed you'd probably have to add a first. Just my opinion based on age position and contract status. Panarin probably puts up more pts again this season. |

This all is probably moot because Jarmo is loathe to trade "in conference", preferring not to face him several times a year. |

Hate to admit this but I agree with Leafs fan. Barkov has way more value, especially taking contracts into consideration. Agreeing with a Leafs fan....Geez |
